이전처럼 UMD로 게임을 구입할 것인지 아니면 PS Store에서 디지탈판을 구입할 것인지를 결정하는데는 소장가치나 UMD 수집욕, 개인 취향 등 여러가지 요소가 있겠죠. 하지만 누가 뭐라해도 제일 중요한 요소는 역시 가격입니다. (PSP Go!는 선택권이 없지만요...)
그래서인지 siliconera.com에서 북미 지역 기준으로 PSP 게임의 UMD 가격과 PS Store 가격을 비교한 기사를 올렸습니다. [출처가기]
비교적 최신 발매된 그란 투리스모나 소울칼리버, Beaterator 등의 게임은 아마존에서 UMD로 구입하는 것이 약간 더 저렴합니다. 하지만 발매된지 오래 되어 UMD 가격이 많이 떨어진 경우에는 PS Store로 구입하기 꺼려질 정도로 가격 차이가 심하게 나네요. (게다가 중고 UMD를 구할 경우에는 더욱 차이가 커지죠.)
그러나 그 반대로 PS Store의 가격이 훨씬 더 저렴한 타이틀도 있습니다. 'The Sims 2 Pets' 같은 게임은 PS Store에 9.99달러로 올라와있지만 아마존에서 UMD로 구입하려면 무려 82.29달러가 필요합니다. 이런 현상이 발생한 이유는 해당 게임의 UMD 생산이 중지되어 신품을 구하기 힘들기 때문이죠.
결국 UMD가 더 싸다, PS Store가 더 싸다라고 전체를 싸잡아 일방적으로 말할 수는 없고, 게임 타이틀에 따라서 달라진다고 봐야겠네요. 최신 타이틀의 경우에는 UMD나 PS Store나 별 차이 없고, 오래 전에 나온 타이틀은 UMD 가격이 많이 하락했기때문에 PS Store보다 UMD로 구입하는 것이 이득입니다. 하지만 해당 타이틀의 UMD가 생산 중지되어 희소가치가 많이 올라갔다면 오히려 PS Store에서 구입하는 것이 더 좋겠죠.
